Fragrance making process

Preparatory materials

Materials needed for incense making include:

• Sandalwood powder, agarwood powder, and other aromatic herbs and spices

• Natural plant-based binding powder

• Incense base (in various sizes: 7 inches, 1 foot, 1.3 feet, 1.6 feet, 1.8 feet, 2 feet, 2.5 feet)

• Natural color or colored materials (red, black, yellow, green, etc.)

• Fill the incense vat about 80% full with water

• Binding the base: First soak in water, then mark the bamboo core with a small amount of binding powder.

STEP.01Applying Adhesive (Base Layer)

Immerse the bamboo core in water up to the marked area, then coat it with adhesive powder, ensuring it adheres evenly. Spread the incense sticks out using the spreading motion.

Repeat this process to prevent the incense sticks from sticking together, then gently pat to remove excess powder. Place on a rack to air dry slightly.

(Start with a small-scale trial to test the adhesive powder ratio before mass production.)

STEP.02Coating with Perfume Powder (Stacking Perfume Powder)

Spread perfume powder on the workbench and repeat the process 3-4 times using the same technique as "adding the paste." The more times you repeat, the thicker the perfume will be.

Finally, coat it with a layer of coloring powder. Then, place the perfume base outdoors to sun-dry, turning it every 30 minutes to prevent localized overheating and warping.

STEP.03Quality Inspection (Burning Test)

Confirm the burning time of the incense sticks and whether they will extinguish midway.
Only after the test is successful can normal production begin to ensure consistent quality for each batch.

STEP.04Applying Lacquer to the Base (Moisture-proof and Aesthetically Pleasing)

After drying, immerse the un-powdered base of the incense sticks in heated red lacquer, gently rotating them left and right to evenly color them, then place them outdoors to air dry again.

STEP.05Re-inspection (Incense Sorting)

Remove bent, damaged, or poorly processed incense sticks one by one, leaving only the best quality incense.

STEP.06Complete

Tie the dried incense sticks together and apply gold lacquer to the base of the incense. This completes the production of Shouxintang natural incense sticks.
