The process of making beads from wild agarwood is so difficult, like extracting the essence from diamonds.
A piece of mineralized, rapidly agarwood or high-oil agarwood, while sinking rapidly in water, doesn't mean every section is high-oil!
Nor will every bead of agarwood sink! Many unusable pieces are simply unknown to agarwood enthusiasts.
What you see is only the finished product; the intermediate processes are difficult to describe!
Therefore, the reason agarwood beads are so expensive is that
when you cut open a thousand-year-old mineralized, rapidly agarwood log, you can see 
many decayed, cracked, dusty, knotted, and aged parts inside its thick exterior.
These are natural products that appear more frequently the agarwood has been formed over a longer period. 
Artificially cultivated, injected, or processed agarwood, or those from shorter periods ...
High-quality agarwood rarely has these defects.
It must be carefully cut away piece by piece, with the cutting location chosen according to the size of the beads.
The larger the size, the more logs must be discarded, and the higher the price! The beads that ultimately form are the essence of the high-quality agarwood. To a string of agarwood beads, a lot of logs must be sacrificed. However, mineralized high-quality agarwood is expensive and scarce, so the amount that can be made into beads must balance the cost. This leads to increasingly higher unit prices for beads... and consequently, more and more counterfeit agarwood beads appearing !
Agarwood beads, necklaces, ornaments, and artworks made from pure, naturally mineralized, thousand-year-old agarwood logs are what agarwood enthusiasts talk about most.
When agarwood enthusiasts gather, they often share their finest agarwood pieces, appreciating the beauty of agarwood together.
However, if these products are made using " handmade" or "technologically advanced" methods, it inevitably leads to anger and resentment among owners, sometimes even resulting in lawsuits. Agarwood then ceases to be beautiful and becomes a burden!
