Is agarwood only divided into sinking and non-sinking types? (Analysis of different agarwood materials)
Dear agarwood enthusiasts,

a friend once asked me:
Why is there such a large price difference between floating agarwood prayer beads?

Everyone knows about the origins and aroma of agarwood...
but did you know that agarwood prayer beads also come in many different materials?
These materials cause the lifespan of the beads to vary in daily use!
Why?
The key lies in the fineness of the agarwood fibers and the protection provided by the natural agarwood resin.

Galilean agarwood, not sinking.
This type of agarwood is not expensive internationally. In the past, it was mostly ground into powder and burned directly to extract its fragrance.
In recent years, it has begun to be used to make prayer beads, or to crush it and press it into dense shapes!
However, in order to cover up the rough and dull surface, other substances such as white wax are often added to increase the luster.

The fibers are large, and the oil layer provides little protection.
When agarwood prayer beads are exposed to sweat, handwashing, and other environmental factors,
moisture penetrates the fiber layers,
causing repeated drying and wetting, leading to fiber tearing
and cracking.

the density. The fibers are slightly finer.
Currently, there are methods abroad to vacuum-pump and inject sinking oil (real or fake) into driftwood to increase its density and make it sink in water.
However, this is not natural sinking that has accumulated over many years!
If it is made into prayer beads, almost every bead will sink rapidly in water! And it looks no different from ordinary agarwood beads!
Therefore, I no longer authenticate it.
Jayapula is a type of agarwood that floats on water but doesn't sink.
Like the two types mentioned above, it doesn't sink,
but its texture is vastly different! The raw wood itself has a translucent luster! Touching the agarwood reveals a smooth, silky feel.
Formed over thousands of years under high temperatures and pressure underground, this agarwood is internationally rare and commands high prices! The wood itself is twisted and gnarled, varying in thickness and shape; thick, intact pieces are rare. If used to make prayer beads, only a small amount of the desired thickness can be cut... (although there are many scraps). Like diamonds, each bead is the essence of the agarwood!

fine fibers and oil secretion allow agarwood to be preserved by nature, preventing it from decaying into dust.
If crafted into prayer beads, its lifespan is also longer...

rapidly in water, with abundant resin lines, a hard and weighty texture.

) Mineralized agarwood has a charred black resin layer; this type of agarwood has a relatively stable and not overpowering aroma.
The fine fibers are almost entirely coated with the resin, protecting them from water...
This is how agarwood prayer beads have been passed down through generations.
